Orange Cyberdefense says it is the first European MSSP to join Mistral AI’s design partner programme. The company is gaining early access to a variant of Mistral Large 4 tailored to cybersecurity. Orange Cyberdefense plans to deploy the model step by step in penetration testing and incident investigation, using computing capacity within Europe.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Orange Cyberdefense is the cybersecurity business unit of Orange Group. The company is joining the design partner programme of French AI company Mistral AI. According to Orange Cyberdefense, it is the first European managed security service provider (MSSP) in that programme. Through the partnership, the company gains early access to a variant of the Mistral Large 4 language model tailored to cybersecurity.<\/p>\n

Use in pentests and incident response<\/h3>\n

Orange Cyberdefense has announced that it will gradually integrate AI systems based on Mistral Large 4 into a selection of its customer services. The company has not disclosed exactly which services these are or when they will become available. It does, however, name two areas of application. In penetration testing and technical security assessments, the company expects AI to enable it to explore a wider range of attack scenarios. In incident investigation and incident response, it aims to use the technology to analyse digital traces more quickly and reconstruct how an attack unfolded.<\/p>\n

Hugues Foulon, CEO of Orange Cyberdefense, says attacks are being organised on an ever larger scale and are increasingly automated. As a result, he argues, defences must also be able to scale. He identifies scale, speed and trust as the three challenges facing cybersecurity now that AI is being used more widely. Foulon says the model is trained by Orange Cyberdefense’s experts and used under their supervision. The company combines the AI with the knowledge of its teams and its own Cyber Threat Intelligence.<\/p>\n

Oversight and control<\/h3>\n

Orange Cyberdefense states that additional security requirements apply to these applications. These include measures for access management and the logging of AI activity. In addition, the models are tested for security risks. According to the company, security specialists always maintain oversight and remain responsible for all critical actions.<\/p>\n

Orange Cyberdefense’s practical experience will be used to further develop the model for cybersecurity. In doing so, both companies aim to develop AI-assisted security capabilities that are auditable and remain under European control.<\/p>\n

European infrastructure<\/h3>\n

The European origin of the technology plays a central role in the partnership. Mistral AI develops its models in Europe and operates its own data centres in Europe. Orange Cyberdefense will run the AI models on computing capacity within Europe. According to the companies, this allows them to retain control over the technology and the environment in which it is used. They are primarily targeting organisations that want to use AI in sensitive environments and have requirements regarding digital sovereignty.<\/p>\n

Marjorie Janiewicz, CRO of Mistral AI, says both companies share the same goal. According to Janiewicz, they want to offer European organisations a sovereign AI solution that is developed and managed in Europe.<\/p>\n

Not an exclusive choice<\/h3>\n

The partnership does not mean Orange Cyberdefense is committing to a single technology supplier. The company says it will remain independent in its choice of technology. It selects solutions based on customer needs, for example in the areas of data protection, laws and regulations, and digital resilience.<\/p>\n

Orange Cyberdefense provides managed security services and detection and response services to organisations worldwide. The company says it employs more than 250 researchers and analysts and operates 16 SOCs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
