They focus on Active Directory, Entra ID and Okta. According to the company, they track changes, map Tier 0 assets and support the recovery of identity configurations. The features will become available worldwide as early access over the coming quarters.

Commvault announced the expansion from Utrecht and will elaborate on the announcement at its SHIFT 2026 event in Nashville. The new features fall under IDRecover, a suite of Commvault solutions for mapping identity risks, monitoring suspicious changes and restoring access after identity systems have been compromised by attackers.

In its announcement, Commvault refers to the State of Multi-Cloud Identity Survey by Strata Identity. According to that research, 80 per cent of large enterprises use multiple identity providers side by side, such as Active Directory, Entra ID and Okta. Commvault argues that this increases complexity around policies, access rights and the management of human and non-human identities.

Auditing across multiple identity providers

With Cross-provider Identity Auditing, Commvault records changes affecting identities, permissions and access rights configurations in Active Directory, Entra ID and Okta. The company states that detection takes place continuously. This should give system administrators visibility into changes across the various identity environments, without having to check each provider separately.

Inventory of Tier 0 assets

Identity Attack Intelligence focuses on Tier 0 assets: the systems and accounts that manage the identity infrastructure itself. According to Commvault, the feature identifies IT assets with elevated access rights and shows which identities hold those rights. The result is a Tier 0 inventory. Commvault expects teams to use this to uncover risks that attackers could exploit to take control of identity systems.

AI recommendations and rolling back changes

The platform also provides AI recommendations. Commvault says these offer insight into the cause of exposed identities and into how to address risky access rights. According to the company, the platform also supports rolling back unwanted changes and restoring trusted identity configurations.

Pranay Ahlawat, Chief Technology & AI Officer at Commvault, says attackers do not need to break into every individual system. In his view, it is enough to obtain the identities that manage those systems. Ahlawat expects this risk to grow due to the increasing number of AI agents and other non-human identities. Commvault aims to give customers visibility into who controls their identity infrastructure, flag dangerous changes and restore trusted access when things go wrong.

Analyst sees demand for identity recovery

Emanuel Figueroa, Senior Research Analyst Identity & Access Management Security at IDC, names identity threat detection and incident response as top priorities within identity security, followed by identity resilience. According to IDC, only 47 per cent of organisations have a completed identity recovery plan.

Figueroa points out that breaking the kill chain stops an attack, but does not undo its consequences. After access has been revoked, modified access rights, group memberships, policies and trust relationships may remain in place. According to him, access management mechanisms cannot return a directory to a verified state. He therefore expects identity recovery to become a purchasing criterion and sees Commvault’s move as a sign that data protection vendors are responding to that need.

Availability

Identity Attack Intelligence and Cross-provider Identity Auditing will become available worldwide as an early access version over the coming quarters, as part of Commvault IDRecover. Commvault does not disclose pricing or licensing terms in the announcement.

The full report can be read via the State of Multi-Cloud Identity Survey.

Commvault adds features for Active Directory, Entra ID and Okta to IDRecover.
