The design is based on NVIDIA GB300 NVL72 systems and brings power supply, automation, cooling and compute together in a single modular concept. STULZ supplies the components for liquid and air cooling.

The blueprint was drawn up by Siemens in collaboration with STULZ and NVIDIA. Siemens is responsible for the electrical infrastructure and automation, STULZ for the cooling technology and NVIDIA for the compute technology. According to STULZ, the guiding principle is that the various disciplines are aligned with one another from the design phase onwards, rather than individual systems being optimised in isolation. The full document has been published as 100 MW AI Hyperscale Blueprint for IEC Markets.

Designed around GB300 NVL72

The reference design has been developed for NVIDIA GB300 NVL72 systems. According to the companies involved, the architecture can also be applied to environments with GB200 NVL72. Both are rack-scale systems in which dozens of GPUs are interconnected within a single rack, resulting in high power density per rack.

STULZ states that the design addresses four key concerns for AI data centres: higher power densities per rack, greater cooling requirements, highly fluctuating electrical loads and the demand for scalable, high-availability infrastructure. The architecture is modular. The company says this structure makes it possible to build AI infrastructure according to a repeatable design, with power supply, cooling, automation and compute configured as a coherent whole.

Liquid and air cooling from STULZ

Within the architecture, STULZ provides the cooling, using a combination of liquid and air cooling. STULZ CyberCool SCS15102Wu Cooling Distribution Units (CDUs) are deployed for the AI server racks. These units handle the distribution of coolant to the racks housing the GPU systems.

The design also includes STULZ ABR 2500 CW air handling units. These cool the supporting racks and remove the residual heat that is not absorbed by the liquid circuit. The concept is therefore based on a hybrid set-up, in which liquid cooling handles the bulk of the heat load from the compute racks and air cooling serves the rest of the space.

STULZ’s announcement gives no further details on the specific components that Siemens contributes to the electrical infrastructure and automation. These can be found in the published document.

Aimed at IEC markets

The blueprint is intended for so-called IEC markets. These are regions where electrical installations are designed according to the standards of the International Electrotechnical Commission, including Europe. The design therefore aligns with the electrical standards that also apply in the Netherlands and Belgium.

STULZ expects the modular approach to speed up the design and implementation of the required infrastructure, allowing compute capacity to be brought into service sooner. At the same time, the company notes that the concept leaves room to tailor the systems to the requirements and conditions of a specific data centre project. The blueprint is thus intended as a starting point for designers and operators, not as an off-the-shelf construction kit.

The full report can be read via 100 MW AI Hyperscale Blueprint for IEC Markets.

Siemens, STULZ and NVIDIA have devised a 100 MW AI data centre reference architecture for GB300 NVL72 systems, combining CDU-based liquid cooling with air cooling for supporting racks.

https://mspbusiness.com/algemeen/siemens-stulz-en-nvidia-publiceren-blauwdruk-voor-100-mw-ai-datacenter/
https://mspbusiness.com/de/it-nachrichten/siemens-stulz-und-nvidia-veroeffentlichen-blueprint-fuer-100-mw-ki-rechenzentrum/
Siemens, STULZ and NVIDIA have published a modular blueprint for 100 MW hyperscale AI data centres in IEC markets.

11

6
post-209","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-press-releases","layout-news
["GET
