ESET adds AI security features to HOME and Small Business Security

ESET is adding an AI security layer to ESET HOME Security and ESET Small Business Security. According to the company, the new features check links and scripts in chatbot responses and the actions of AI agents, among other things. The update also brings in-browser screen protection, an iOS app and web control for small businesses.

ESET HOME Security is aimed at consumers, while ESET Small Business Security targets small businesses. Both products are getting an AI security layer that includes AI Conversation Security, AI Agent Security and AI Behavioral Monitoring. ESET is also introducing Browser Screen Protection, a security app for iOS and a web filter for business users.

Viktória Ivanová, Vice President Consumer & IoT at ESET, says cybercriminals are already using AI to develop more convincing scams and new attack methods. According to her, ESET is extending its protection to the places where people work, browse, communicate and use AI tools. Ivanová adds that the company aims to keep security simple and easy to understand.

Monitoring chatbots and AI agents

AI Conversation Security initially works with ChatGPT, with support for Gemini and Copilot to follow later. According to ESET, the feature checks URLs in responses from language models and warns users about links to phishing websites, malicious sources or potentially unwanted sources before they click. Scripts generated by a language model are also checked. The company expects this to prevent users from running malicious code on their devices.

AI Agent Security focuses on AI agents that independently open and download files. ESET says the feature checks files, scripts and external URLs before they are executed or opened. AI Behavioral Monitoring works alongside it, continuously monitoring agent behaviour. The company says the feature looks for unusual actions, suspicious access attempts, anomalous behaviour patterns and downloads from potentially suspicious sources.

ESET is also making the AI Skills Checker available online free of charge. The tool uses the same technology as AI Agent Security and scans AI skills, extensions for AI tools, for signs of malicious activity or risky behaviour. This check takes place before users install the extensions.

Screen protection in the browser

With Browser Screen Protection, ESET aims to shield sensitive data while users browse. According to the company, the feature blocks unauthorised screenshots, screen recordings and screen sharing. It is also intended to protect against malware that steals information or captures screen images. ESET cites online banking, shopping and private browsing as use cases.

Security app for iOS

ESET is also releasing the ESET Mobile Security for iOS app, in a free and a premium version. The free version includes Link Checker, which checks URLs against ESET’s database of malicious links. Device Scan provides an overview of the device’s security status, including insecure settings and missing security permissions. Device Settings Check reviews settings such as screen lock, notifications and available storage space for updates.

The premium version adds Anti-Phishing for Safari, which according to ESET blocks malicious pages before they load. Connection Security warns about risky or unsecured Wi-Fi networks and lets users create a list of trusted networks. The app is still awaiting approval from Apple. Availability may vary by region.

Web control for small businesses

ESET Small Business Security is also gaining Web Control, which lets administrators set which websites employees can access. Access can be restricted for sites with potentially dangerous or inappropriate content, offensive material, content that infringes intellectual property rights and pages that may affect productivity, among others.
